The latest version of Detail supports Shortcuts to add captions to your video or generate a transcript for any video or audio file. With Apple Shortcuts, you can automate almost everything. There’s a huge collection of applications that have support for Shortcuts, which you can combine with events, triggers, filters, advanced logic, and can be all chained together to make incredibly powerful workflows. No surprise that millions of people use Shortcuts to automate their life and work.
We’re excited to share five simple but powerful Shortcuts that use our shortcut actions in Detail, combined with ChatGPT on iOS and other apps like Notes or Instagram, to automate your video workflow, generate new ideas, and save time.

Shortcut to add captions to a video
Let’s start with the basics. Using our Shortcut intent to add captions to a video file, you can create a simple workflow that takes a video as input, let’s you trim the video, adds captions, and then shows the result in Quick Look to save or share. You can replace the Quick look action with an action to save the video to Photos or share to another app.

Shortcut to create a transcript from video or audio
Detail has a Shortcut intent that generates a transcript from any audio or video file. It produces a full text transcript as output, which you can save or share, or use as input for other actions. In this example, we take a video file or audio recording as your input and show the result in Quick Look to save or share. You can extend this Shortcut with additional actions, save your result to Apple Notes, or for example save the Transcript as text file in Dropbox.

Shortcut to create new video ideas with ChatGPT
ChatGPT supports Shortcuts on iOS. After installing the ChatGPT iOS app, you can use Shortcuts to prompt GPT3.5 or GPT4. Combine the transcript of your video with a ChatGPT prompt in a Shortcut. In this Shortcut, we use Detail Duo and ChatGPT to generate a title and 5 ideas for new videos, based on the video you use as input.

Shortcut to suggest Instagram captions for a video
Use ChatGPT and Detail to generate a transcript of your video and suggest 10 different Instagram captions for this video. In this example, we generate the transcript, prompt ChatGPT for suggested captions, and output the result in Quick Look for easy sharing or saving. You can also save the output as a Note in your Notes app, use Dropbox to save your video and a text file, or use for example Bear or Craft to store your notes.

Shortcut to post a video with captions to Instagram
With our captions Shortcut intent, you can add text captions or subtitles to any video. You can use the Shortcut in the Share Sheet, trigger it from the Shortcuts app, or save it your homescreen for easy access. This example adds captions to your video, generates an Instagram caption with ChatGPT and copies the caption to the clipboard, and then posts your video with captions to Instagram.
When testing this Shortcut, Instagram didn’t include the text caption we send to their Shortcut automatically when we made a post. That’s why we copy the generated caption to clipboard, so you can easily paste it when you post your video.
